The MR Sales extranet is a single function extranet typical of what a company would use to communicate with their Manufacturers Representatives.  In addition to general information that is available to all representatives, it contains content that is private to a specific rep organization.  Select MR Sales Login below to begin the MR Sales tour.

If you want to tour an extranet that supports a wider range of functions, we have provided a more comprehensive extranet configured for a mythical company called Marin Routers.

In order to make it easier to understand the extranet configuration, the participants in the extranet are shown in the diagram below:

The extranet is composed of the following groups:

• The Marin Routers Group is for company employees to communicate amongst them selves and also with members of the other extranet groups.
• The Beta Test Group is for potential customers who are beta test the latest routers from the company.  This provides a quick way for the various testers to communicate with the engineers at Marin Routers and with each other.
• The Account Representative Group is available to the regional account representatives.  This provides a mechanism that representatives can use to communicate sales and marketing information between headquarters and each other.
• The Resellers Group provides a channel for the company to communicate with their resellers.
• The Mechanical Design Group and Advanced Communications Software Groups provide a mechanism that permits rapid communication with teo of the companies important vendors.

You will be logged in as Joe Guest a member of Marin Routers the sponsoring group.  You will be able to perform the functions available to a typical user.

The menu on the left side of the window has links to the available functions.  Since members of the sponsoring group has access to all extranet groups, you can select the group that you want to communicate with by selecting a group from the "Select a Group" dropdown list. For example if Joe Guest wants to monitor the progress of the beta test of the new router, he would select the Beta Test Group.  He could then add items to the newsletter about an extension to the beta test period (he has write permissions to the newsletter).  He could also check the discussion forums to determine if any of the beta testers have had problems.  Finally he could check the information group to check that the latest draft of the manual had been posted.

A member of the Beta Test Group logging in will only see the information pertinent to that group.  You can log in as a beta test member by logging in as janebeta with a password of janebeta.

Selecting Help from the menu in the left frame and then Taking a Tour from the Help index, will provide information on additional functions that are available to Joe Guest.  For additional information on how to perform functions, you can use the context sensitive Help link at top left hand corner of most pages.
